About

I'm a Christian mother of two, married to an engineer and living in a modest little home somewhere in America. I have a 10 year old son, diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and a healthy 9 year old daughter.

A little homeschool history:
We homeschooled up until January 3rd of 2009, giving it up temporarily to give our high-functioning autistic son the structure and peer modeling he was missing at home. Both our kids are now in a wonderful public school and while the situation does have it's drawbacks, they're thriving and seem very happy with their teachers and classmates.

We're planning on bringing the kids back home in a couple years. In the meantime I'm trying to develop (or find) a Christian homeschooling community or social networking opportunity that will provide friendship and support to our entire family and the special needs we face.  I'm starting a support group for mom's of children on the Autism Spectrum in January of '11.

Why I blog....
It used to be that blogging was my only means of income... yes, you can make a little money blogging! In August '10 I started working (outside the home for the first time in 8 years) for the school district in which my kids are currently enrolled. I currently work full-time, during the school year as a Life Skills Para-educator. It's really the perfect job as it keeps me out of trouble and means I'm ALWAYS home when my kids are! We share all the same holidays and school breaks, snow days, Summer vacations and I'm home before and after school.

I continue to blog as it has helped me tremendously in paying for our son's therapy, which isn't entirely covered by insurance. In fact, most of it isn't. He sees a child psychologist, a child psychiatrist, and is a student at Kumon (for math).  In addition to blogging for extra income, I have a Cafe Press store, an Amazon site where you can purchase books for your homeschool and several Squidoo lenses, just for fun!

I continue this particular blog, because I fully anticipate bringing my children home once they've completed the fifth grade... or perhaps at some point during middle school. Likely one at a time. My son will have 5th grade completed in May of '12 and my daughter 2 years later.
